Beauties and the Bees

Many of us are aware that bees are declining in many parts of the world.
There are many different theories as to the reasons of the decline.

I do not intend to delve into the possibilities.
But am delighted that my sunflowers are infested with bees.

When I started gardening here 3 years ago,
I was shocked and frustrated to see only 5 grains in my first corn.

Seeing the sight of bees would mean there are more pollinators and a much better balance now.

Did you notice a grasshopper and a bee dining harmoniously together above?

Sunflowers are bright and cheerful and usually brings a smile to one's face.
Having bees on a sunflower would bring a double smile to mine.

I have not forgotten the tragedy in Japan despite my post which may appear to be happy.
There are plenty of grim news everyday and some days are just worst off than others.

A natural disaster can serve as a reminder that our lives are fragile and that we better treasure our present moments.
I'm treasuring the 'Beauties and the Bees' now, knowing that these will pass soon...just like any other happy or sorry states.

Since these beauties will soon pass, I've created a messy mosaic to preserve them.
Of course, I am not referring to Clifford.
His purpose is to show that some of those sunflowers are more than 8 feet tall.

Check out Dear Little Red House for some really beautiful mosaics.

Blooms at the Nature Park - Jan 2011

After looking at the Wildlife in Kuala Selangor Nature Park, let's admire the flowers offered there.

Above are some 'flying flowers' busy sipping away at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park.
According to Commander from Butterflies of Singapore, who is an expert in butterflies, the first one is called a Blue Glassy Tiger and the second one, a Long Banded Silverline.

Most of the wild flowers were white.
Although they were not very showy, the butterflies seem to adore them.
Perhaps these flowers were bursting with untainted, juicy nutrients.
According to Donna of Garden Walk Garden Talk in her latest Garden Magazine, white is a great place to give the eye a rest.

Yellow was as popular as white in this park.
There was even a blanket of yellow flowers on the ground.
But the butterflies must have found white a lot more relaxing.

Do you know that lantana is a weed?
Isn't this the kind of weed we really wouldn't mind growing in the garden?
What are your favourite weeds and wildflowers?

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day Oct 2010 at Onenezz

My second pot of lotus is showing its first bloom today.
I thought I should take this opportunity to participate in Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day for the first time.

3 days ago, my dragon fruit flower bloomed.

This morning, a fruit is forming at the base. Yippee!

My second agave plant is in flowers now.
The first one which I posted recently is showing signs of old age.

I found these blooming in the shop.
Thought you may like it.
