GBBD Oct 2011 at Onenezz

Yellow represents sunshine.

It is associated with joy and happiness.

After removing the lawn, I reserved about 400 square foot of land to grow plants.

Before I decided what to grow, cosmos invaded.
I got rid of some but left most of them where they were because I thought they would be good to attract all the interesting critters apart from looking beautiful.

Below is a Common Grass Yellow Butterfly.

It is a moth, NOT a wasp.

Plain Tiger Butterfly.

Thanks to Nature Rambles, the orange butterfly below is called a Peacock Pansy.
It resembles the Blue Pansy which also appeared on the cosmos.

Don't you just love the orange skipper below?
I'm entering this photo in Picture This Photo Contest at Gardening Gone Wild.
The theme for this month is 'Fill the Frame' and in this instance, it is the bokeh that is filling the frame, not the skipper.

Here is another orange insect.
Come to think of it, there are lots of of orange insects at this time.
Anything to do with Halloween approaching?

Treehoppers suck the sap of the plant.
They may not be healthy for plants but it really doesn't matter to me.
The cosmos has served its purpose of attracting many critters, both beneficial and otherwise.

A lady bug should be a delightful sight for most gardeners, I guess.

Actually, I enjoy these cosmos with or without the critters.

Anyone keen to adopt a grasshopper?

Probably not.
How about a dragonfly?

Paradise

I thought I saw Paradise,
And wondered if I was dreaming.

I checked with a butterfly,
But it was busy drinking.

My lady has an advice,
The scene is ever-changing.

Appreciate while it's nice,
For leaves are disappearing.

"Hoppers' Snacking Enterprise",
Is seen to be opening.

It's the Critters' Paradise,
That I'm actually seeing.

p.s. In case you didn't notice, there are 2 grasshoppers munching.

Caption - Junior Pageant Winner

It's Photo Caption time!

Is the grasshopper a threat or is it being threatened?
See the water droplets on its body?
Is it sweating, in tears, terrified or just exhausted?
Let's see some of the captions that came up last week.

grasshopper rain droplets

GardenWalkGardenTalk : Don't know why I have to climb this thing when hopping is so much easier?

GardenSpot : Oh, no! I think I've just been spotted by Ann of Garden Spot.

Anna : Man, I need to join Weight Watchers! I'm only half way to the top and sweating like a pig!

One : Please tell your child to turn his head away from me before he sneezes again!

Bananaz : A remake insect version of Ethan Hunt in the next movie, "Mission I'm-possible" at it's most critical moment with the one drop of sweat that could run his mission of stealing the NOC list from the CIA HQ.
(Personal note to Bananaz : When is it showing in the cinema? Akan Datang?)

GardenSpot : A Hawaiian student's pet in University of Colorado.

Hootin' Anni : Mana'o nahenahe. (means 'Sweet Dreams' in Hawaii)

Anna : Hawaiian Junior Miss Dog Pageant Winner!

I have 2 new photos which may bring about some smiles.
Isn't this the cutest dragonfly in the world?
I'll be happy to stand corrected.
Just show me a cuter one.

As for the photo below, be rest assured that the toad survived the ordeal.

You are invited to submit your captions for the 2 new photos; dragonfly and dog.
Selected captions will be posted next week with links to your blogs.
Of course, comments are always welcomed too.

Thank you to all of you who have been contributing.
This is a collage I have prepared for you as a token of appreciation.
Photos are from my edible garden.
They  consist of flowers of spinach, dragon fruit, dill, stevia and tomato.

Have a fun week ahead!

Caption - Dog Tired

I am posting a photo based on some of the captions you came up with last week.
If you have been following the weekly Caption Game, you would notice that this photo below did not appear last Monday but it goes so well with some of your suggested captions.

Anna : Dog tired!!!

Genie : What is this about climbing a mountain...all I want to do is to plop right here and chill.

Cheryl : Oh crap! I just heard the clicking sound again! Why can't One just leave me alone?

GardenWalkGardenTalk : I didn't even finish with the appetizer and here comes the main course.

Bananaz : Wasp-up? Didn't you receive my text message? Our Queen wanna have turkey this Thanksgiving!

Hootin' Anni : Table for two?

Hootin' Anni : Her-r-r-e, Mousey, Mousey...

Milka : I hope no one sees me, now that I see no one.
(Personal note to Milka : The above is improvised from your comment.)

Solitude Rising : I don't remember burying the doggone bone that deep.

Bananaz : Clifford held his breath for 19 minutes and 51 seconds, breaking the world record in "breath-holding in a hole". Do NOT try this at home! It is extremely dangerous and should only be undertaken by a skilled trained, professional DOG.

One : "Hey!!! Did someone just switched off the lights?", asked Clifford as he put his head deeper into the hole.

Notice cold sweat trickling down the grasshopper's neck?

Even if you are not game for captions, I hope Clifford's silly expression bring a smile to your face.

You are all invited to share your creative captions for the last 2 photos.
Comments are of course welcomed too.

Have fun!
Smile now for a great week ahead!

Note : In case I'm taken too seriously, let me just clarify here.
The water droplets on the grasshopper are actually raindrops.
I have not seen this grasshopper fly nor hop before because it is still at the nymph stage.

Nibbling Flowers

A few days ago, I found a grasshopper nibbling my canna lily leaves.
What comes to your mind when you see this grasshopper destroying the leaves?

To be honest, what came to my mind was 'green against green'.
If the grasshopper were to move towards those striking blooming flowers, then it may look more attractive.
(Did someone say Nuts!?)
Anyway, the point here is to be careful what you wish for because wishes are almost always granted.

As expected, today, the grasshopper peeped at me from behind the Canna Yellow King Humbert!

This time, the grasshopper definitely stood out among the canna lilies.

It thanked me for such delicious flowers.

It was however a little upset that I took shots from all angles including his backside.

It started to get annoyed when I continued clicking!
Can you see its facial expression change from being upset to being annoyed?
(Did someone say Nuts again?)
I am thankful that the grasshopper did not notice my spinach.

Advise for the Day
Be grateful for what the grasshopper did not eat.

If you enjoy this post, do hop over to my other blog at Tropical Nature Photos.
That blog is feeling a little lonely.
Be rest assured that if you Click on 'Follow', the little critters would not follow you to your garden.
They are quite happy here.

Caption - Shall We Dance?

Thank you for your wonderful comments and hilarious captions.
Enjoy the few captions that have been selected and listed below.

Luna Miranda : Myna 1 - Where is that tramp who ruffled your feathers?
Myna 2 - She isn't a tramp. She works in a hair salon!

Donna : Wife - I told you, you are staying home tonight with me to watch the chick flick.
Husband - Yes dear, whatever you say dear.

Anna : Birdy Bodybuilder 1 - My pects are bigger than yours!
Birdy Bodybuilder 2 - No way! Look at mine!

Bananaz : Myna 1 - Caught you red feathered! Fowl play behind my back!
Myna 2 : Where got! No fowl play. Those feathers are mine. You've never heard of ageing and greying?!

Cathy and Steve : Hen-pecked.

Luna Miranda : Aha! You are the answer to my prayers!

Anna : All wrapped up in love, or not?!

Bananaz : Richard G Mantis holding J Lo Fly with its spiked forelegs and whispered softly, "Shall we dance?"

Fer:  And now, let's tango.

The above are 2 new photos awaiting your captions.
I found the latter under the staircase in a school!
Eagerly awaiting your captions and thoughts...

Adapting to Change

Have you ever heard a tune and find yourself humming the tune repeatedly?
I have just seen a photo and the image stayed, my heart hurts and I know I must share this.

Where there should be snow, instead there is a field of purple flowers, confusing this polar bear

The above photo is taken from Mail Online.
You may view all the beautiful photos and read the entire story by petting the bear on its head with the touch pad or mouse.
It is about the polar bear missing the snow and losing the ability to camouflage due to the change in climate.
I hope the bear doesn't turn purple but white flowers bloom abundantly instead.
Even then, the polar bear may miss feeding on ice.
I guess we human do encounter changes in our environment and learn to adapt as well.

Back in my garden, there are green grasshoppers that camouflage well amongst the leaves.

However, there is a white grasshopper that stands out which reminds me of the polar bear.
Will there come a day when we encounter snow in the tropics?
Will we adapt?
Let's live in the present moment and enjoy what we have today.
Who knows, they may be gone tomorrow.
Meanwhile trust that we would be able to adapt to changes...
