Andrea : Mama, mama, I passed my initiation. Now they call me a Dog.

Bom : This does not taste anything like the green ball that One asked me to fetch.

Victoria : Mom, can I keep him,... pretty please?

Hootin' Anni : Take me to your leader!

Solitude Rising : I kissed you and I turned into a dog. Now, suffer my wrath!

One : I can explain... I did not catch the toad. It hopped right into my mouth! Come on! Trust me!

Bananaz : How I wish my darling is here to hold my waist just like Jack and Rosie in Titanic...my heart will go on and on...

(This orange dragonfly photo has been added to go with Bananaz's caption  because it looks like it is contemplating on diving ...)

The 2 new photos are of a monkey analyzing a banana and 2 dogs in action.
Looking forward eagerly to your captions and comments.

Caption - Junior Pageant Winner

It's Photo Caption time!

Is the grasshopper a threat or is it being threatened?
See the water droplets on its body?
Is it sweating, in tears, terrified or just exhausted?
Let's see some of the captions that came up last week.

grasshopper rain droplets

GardenWalkGardenTalk : Don't know why I have to climb this thing when hopping is so much easier?

GardenSpot : Oh, no! I think I've just been spotted by Ann of Garden Spot.

Anna : Man, I need to join Weight Watchers! I'm only half way to the top and sweating like a pig!

One : Please tell your child to turn his head away from me before he sneezes again!

Bananaz : A remake insect version of Ethan Hunt in the next movie, "Mission I'm-possible" at it's most critical moment with the one drop of sweat that could run his mission of stealing the NOC list from the CIA HQ.
(Personal note to Bananaz : When is it showing in the cinema? Akan Datang?)

GardenSpot : A Hawaiian student's pet in University of Colorado.

Hootin' Anni : Mana'o nahenahe. (means 'Sweet Dreams' in Hawaii)

Anna : Hawaiian Junior Miss Dog Pageant Winner!

I have 2 new photos which may bring about some smiles.
Isn't this the cutest dragonfly in the world?
I'll be happy to stand corrected.
Just show me a cuter one.

As for the photo below, be rest assured that the toad survived the ordeal.

Shades of Orange

Here are some of the items with shades of orange in the garden.

Top view of Moon Cactus.
With barely any care for the last 6 months, this yellow-orange moon cactus still look gorgeous, doesn't it?

Marigold
They are grown in between cabbage plants.
I don't know exactly what the marigold did, but I certainly managed to harvest all my cabbages this time and in good shape too.

Geiger Flower Tree
A row of these trees are grown by the developer in front of my house.
They look good from this direction.
Lots of fallen dried leaves and fruits on the opposite direction.

Canna
These are thriving despite daily rain last month and rainless days this month.

Titty Fruit (Solanum mammosum)
These are not edible but I think they look cute.

Fungi
See the peace symbol?
We use our fingers, the bug uses its antennae.

Orange beetle.
What could it be up to?

Skipper - not a true butterfly nor a moth.
More of this in another post.

Fish
It's purpose is to ensure no mosquito larvae in my lotus pot.
Sometimes I scoop up some of the water and fish waste to add to the compost pile.

My favourite orange items would have to be these 3 dragonflies.
I have yet to see them catch their prey.
So far, I've only seen a spider eating a caterpillar and a praying mantis eating a fly.

Garden Statues

Quite sometime back, we bought a glassmade dragonfly and a butterfly that lighted up at night in the garden automatically.
They used solar energy and looked very pretty at night.
Both didn't last long as they fell to the ground and broke.
We looked for bigger and sturdier statues to liven up the garden.
Then we bumped into a very versatile one.

It doesn't use batteries nor solar.
Yet, it's capable of changing poses.

The setback is that it needs to be recharged by soaking itself in the soil frequently.
Could it be related to the earthworm family?

Thankfully there is always an endless stream of back-up live statues to continuously liven up the garden.

Caterpillars Everywhere

There are lots of caterpillars devouring cabbage leaves on all the four pots of cabbage plants that I have. This same type of caterpillar appears everwhere; on vegetables, ornamental plants, herbs and even fruit trees. It is called the Rusty Tussock Moth Caterpillar.

Below is one of the many furry, colourful caterpillars beneath a cabbage leaf.

Caterpillar poop on ginger leaves.

Caterpillar on an ornamental plant.

Caterpillar on a herb stem staring at a red-eye insect.

Black ants feasting on a flightless female & its cocoon beneath a sugar apple leaf.

The caterpillars may have attracted many birds and ants apart from dragonflies, spiders and paper wasps these days.

To me - Caterpillars in abundance.
To the caterpillar - Organic greens in abundance.
To the predators - Organic nutrients in abundance.

The Making of a Dragon Fruit (Part 2)

Hand Pollination done 3 weeks ago was successful.
The flower has dried up and the dragon fruit should ripen soon.
This is considered lucky as the first flowers do not always set fruit.

Is it the dragon fruit season? 2 more flowers found blooming.

This time we use a cotton bud instead of a paint brush to pollinate.

There were insects doing the job too but can we rely on them to pollinate successfully?

Here is a dragonfly on a dragon fruit plant waiting for a meal of pollinators.

The presence of dragonflies is an indication that the ecosystem is in good condition, since they are sensitive to pollution.
