Caption - Food Cravings

Monday Photo Captions wouldn't be as much fun without your wild ideas.
I appreciate all of you who submitted your captions and especially those who came back when ideas struck after being stuck.

Luna Miranda : She said YES?

Malay Kadazan Girl : A good fluffy cover for hide and seek!

Bananaz : Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee... or is it a wasp. Gee! DOGgoned memory!

GardenWalkGardenTalk : And I thought I got a portrait all for myself without that big lug, Clifford. Dang fly!

b-a-g : I'm not going through a midlife crisis. It's just my wisdom teeth coming through.

Anna : My! These chew toys are getting bigger all the time.

One : Effective solution to avoid teeth grinding during sleep.

Autumn Belle : Almost all expectant mothers experience food cravings during pregnancy.

Kay L. Davies : A very hungry dog eating furniture.

My kindhearted teenage neighbour rescued these abandoned kittens over a week ago. Now that they have been fattened up a bit, they are available for adoption. Don't they look adorable?

Send in your captions for the kitten photos and stand a chance to win a kitten of your choice!
How about that?
All selected captions will be posted next Monday with a link to your respective blogs, with or without a kitten.

For those who didn't have enough of the kittens, here is a mosaic of them.

Getting Ready for National Day

We have to Get Ready for National Day which is tomorrow.
I hired an assistant to Dress Up the Boys with our National Flowers.
She got to work immediately without even alighting from her vehicle.
Some people are very passionate about what they do.

She did not bring any tools with her, only red hibiscus flowers in the basket of her bike.

I must admit that after visiting Rosie and Kala's sites, I am beginning to see beauty in bikes.
Click on the links to admire their spectacular bike shots.

Actually we wanted Pichu to hold the flower in the mouth, as if he is about to tango but he has other plans with the hibiscus.

Check out
Dressing Up the Boys for National Day
to see the outcome of the preparation.
The boys look more desirable than I thought possible.

Selamat Hari Merdeka!

Caption - Junior Pageant Winner

It's Photo Caption time!

Is the grasshopper a threat or is it being threatened?
See the water droplets on its body?
Is it sweating, in tears, terrified or just exhausted?
Let's see some of the captions that came up last week.

grasshopper rain droplets

GardenWalkGardenTalk : Don't know why I have to climb this thing when hopping is so much easier?

GardenSpot : Oh, no! I think I've just been spotted by Ann of Garden Spot.

Anna : Man, I need to join Weight Watchers! I'm only half way to the top and sweating like a pig!

One : Please tell your child to turn his head away from me before he sneezes again!

Bananaz : A remake insect version of Ethan Hunt in the next movie, "Mission I'm-possible" at it's most critical moment with the one drop of sweat that could run his mission of stealing the NOC list from the CIA HQ.
(Personal note to Bananaz : When is it showing in the cinema? Akan Datang?)

GardenSpot : A Hawaiian student's pet in University of Colorado.

Hootin' Anni : Mana'o nahenahe. (means 'Sweet Dreams' in Hawaii)

Anna : Hawaiian Junior Miss Dog Pageant Winner!

I have 2 new photos which may bring about some smiles.
Isn't this the cutest dragonfly in the world?
I'll be happy to stand corrected.
Just show me a cuter one.

As for the photo below, be rest assured that the toad survived the ordeal.

You are invited to submit your captions for the 2 new photos; dragonfly and dog.
Selected captions will be posted next week with links to your blogs.
Of course, comments are always welcomed too.

Thank you to all of you who have been contributing.
This is a collage I have prepared for you as a token of appreciation.

Caption - Dog Tired

I am posting a photo based on some of the captions you came up with last week.
If you have been following the weekly Caption Game, you would notice that this photo below did not appear last Monday but it goes so well with some of your suggested captions.

Anna : Dog tired!!!

Genie : What is this about climbing a mountain...all I want to do is to plop right here and chill.

Cheryl : Oh crap! I just heard the clicking sound again! Why can't One just leave me alone?

GardenWalkGardenTalk : I didn't even finish with the appetizer and here comes the main course.

Bananaz : Wasp-up? Didn't you receive my text message? Our Queen wanna have turkey this Thanksgiving!

Hootin' Anni : Table for two?

Hootin' Anni : Her-r-r-e, Mousey, Mousey...

Milka : I hope no one sees me, now that I see no one.
(Personal note to Milka : The above is improvised from your comment.)

Solitude Rising : I don't remember burying the doggone bone that deep.

Bananaz : Clifford held his breath for 19 minutes and 51 seconds, breaking the world record in "breath-holding in a hole". Do NOT try this at home! It is extremely dangerous and should only be undertaken by a skilled trained, professional DOG.

One : "Hey!!! Did someone just switched off the lights?", asked Clifford as he put his head deeper into the hole.

Notice cold sweat trickling down the grasshopper's neck?

Even if you are not game for captions, I hope Clifford's silly expression bring a smile to your face.

You are all invited to share your creative captions for the last 2 photos.
Comments are of course welcomed too.

Have fun!
Smile now for a great week ahead!

Note : In case I'm taken too seriously, let me just clarify here.
The water droplets on the grasshopper are actually raindrops.
I have not seen this grasshopper fly nor hop before because it is still at the nymph stage.

Caption - Stripes is In

Many a times, we may be looking at the same photo but yet we seem to see and understand it differently.
I find it very amusing that some of you think the brown lizard is peeping at some hot girl.

Kitchen Flavours : Did you see her? Ok, it's my turn now.

Bananaz : Stop playing 'Guess Who'! My lunch gonna hop away soon.

Anna : Thanks pal. I needed to get a-head.

Solitude Rising : Hehehe...go ahead look up there while I will have a feast down here...
(Personal note to SR - You must be hungry. Previously you were waiting for the larva to drop in your mouth.)

I really love these jail captions! LOL!

Kitchen Flavours : I can't wait for graduation day!

Luna Miranda : Stripes is in!

Hootin' Anni's : Grafitti! It's illegal here?!!!

Two new photos below.
The first one consists of a wasp, a worm and a black ant.

Actually I can hear what Clifford is saying with his head in a hole but I'll wait for your creative captions and comments.
Have a fun week ahead!

False Start

Desert Rose is blooming beautifully with periwinkle growing wildly behind it.

Skippers seem to be attracted to both the desert rose and periwinkle.
A skipper butterfly is named as such because of its quick, darting flight habits.
I'm happy to see them but as you know, I'm quite happy to see any critters in my garden.

With the 3 collages above, did you START to imagine a nice, neat and colourful garden, filled with butterflies?
Well, that would be a FALSE START.
See reality below.

In reality, Clifford would slam the cockcomb flowers with his face and lie down on them.
In reality, Goldee would look for critters beneath the cabbages and even trample over the cabbages.
In reality, I have too many false starts in trying to tidy up the garden.

I was building a veggie bed to keep the dogs out yesterday.
As usual, the dogs helped out in the garden.
Along the way, the bed changed shape and became a doggie bed.
They lay down on the doggie bed and smiled at me.
What was I thinking?
Another false start!

Watch out for other False Starts at Roses and Stuff.

Lemon Tree Follow-Up

My dear friend, Andrea has requested that I put up the photo of the entire lemon tree.
I managed to get Clifford to pose in front of the bush so that you could see the relative size.
The 2 photos in the collage below are taken from 2 different angles with the lemon tree behind Clifford.

I must agree with Bangchik that although caterpillars eat leaves, they do not kill the plants like termites.
My initial experience with this lemon tree was very bad.
The tree was bald most of the time.
Sometimes, I removed the caterpillars together with some leaves so that they could eat them elsewhere and leave the rest of the plant alone.
However, I didn't feel very good about that.

Eventually, I found a solution to the problem.
Instead of scarcity, why not think abundance?
I  transferred the plant from the pot to the ground.
This tree multiplied in size pretty quickly.
Very soon, there were too many leaves for the caterpillars.
I also grew a few lime trees nearby.
Caterpillars and lemon tree grew together in harmony.
There were more than enough leaves, even for the grasshoppers.

It began to flower just a few months ago, giving out wonderful fragrance.

Dear Cat, you wanted to know how much coffee ground I used.
I throw in about 5 bucketfuls last year.
However since yours is in a pot like Karin's, I suggest you use only very sparingly, to avoid toxic buildup.
I am no expert in this but just feel that it is safer to use them on the ground as the environment is more natural and balance.
Hope that helps.

If there are anyone experienced with using coffee grounds in the garden, do feel free to chip in.

Mt Fuji Morning Glory

Mt Fuji Morning Glory is one of my favourite flowers but I found them a little too delicate.
They flowered and withered very fast when I grew them in pots.
One day, I decided to sow a few seeds in the crevice of this wooden cable drum which I am using as a recycled table.

I am so glad I did this as the blooms are bigger and the vine a whole lot stronger compared to the ones grown in pots.
Clifford can't stop admiring them too.

Sometimes a small change can make a big difference.

Who Stole The Coconut?

Someone stole a coconut from the flower bed.
Who could that be?
Sing along to the tune of 'Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar'.

Who stole the coconut from the flower bed?
Pichu stole the coconut from the flower bed.

Who me?
Yeah you!
Couldn't be!
Then who?

Clifford stole the coconut from the flower bed.
Who me?
Yeah you!
Couldn't be!
Then who?

Goldee stole the coconut from the flower bed.
Who me?
Yeah you!

Goldee is destroying the evidence...

... with her assistant taking over as shredding is physically demanding for her age.

Free Garden Edge Materials

Most of my garden beds started out without an edge.
In fact, most of them still are, like the one below.
It is only covered with mulch which consist of cut grass and some dried leaves.

Sometimes I use tree trunks and branches as a garden edge.

I also use portulaca and other low-growing creepers to act as an edge.

The above are 2 Garden Pest Controllers sniffing the garden edge for my red sugar cane patch.

Coconut husks, wooden planks and rocks are the other materials that I use as garden edges.
All these materials are easily available here and for free too!
I love the natural look of these materials.
I have a not-so-natural item which is a used car tyre.
It is almost completely hidden in the first photo as I grew the plants inside and around it.

How do you edge your garden beds?

Fer from My Garden in Japan is hosting a World Garden Carnival with the topic 'New Year Gardening Resolutions.'
One of mine would be to continue to look out for new garden edging materials which are easily obtainable.
Head over to  My Garden in Japan for the links to interesting 2011 Gardening Projects all over the world.

This is also my Fertilizer Friday submission where flaunting of flowers and weekly fertilizing are encouraged.
Thanks to Tootsie of Tootsie Time for the opportunity to flaunt my flowers.

p.s. Diana of Kebun Malay-KadazanGirls, See the sunflowers plants next to the yellow cosmos in the last collage? Those are from the seeds you sent. They will be flowering soon. Yippee!

Kissing a Toad

Toad : "Hi, Big Fella!"

Toad : "Move over. You are in my way!"

Clifford : "I must be dreaming...zz..."

Clifford : "Mom! It's a talking toad!!!"

Goldee : "Beware! The last one I chewed on made my mouth white and foamy.
I ended up looking like a clown with huge, white lips."

Clifford : "I guess a peck is harmless. It's cute."

Toad : "Er...Excuse, me."

Toad : "Stop drooling on me. I don't want to get any slimier."

Toad : "Yikes! I need a bath right now!

Toad : "In case you are wondering, I do not have royal blood in me. I am NOT a frog and shall NOT change into a prince."
