Male and Female Eggfly

'Kiasu' is a Chinese Dialect which means the fear of losing.
This word is so widely used by the Singaporeans that it has been incorporated into their English vocabulary called Singlish.

One example of a blogger with a kiasu attitude is Andrea.
Just because I posted on an Elusive White Butterfly 2 days ago, she posted a photo with a dozen white butterflies yesterday!!!
How 'kiasu' can she get?!

I must admit that although 'kiasu' has a negative connotation, it can lead us to strive forward and improve.

All the photos above are of a female eggfly.

This black butterfly with blue spots is a male Eggfly.

Together they may produce this spiky caterpillar.
Are you thinking what I am thinking?
Can you see that this 'kiasu' syndrome may lead to a dozen butterflies soon?
I can imagine a dozen butterflies in one photo, just like Andrea's.

Before I get these butterflies to multiply, someone may post on a dozen of healthy cabbages and I'll post of mine with a thousand holes, eaten up by the caterpillars.
Oh dear, I must not be carried away with this 'kiasu' syndrome.
Just one little dose a day will keep fun my way.

Anyone game to continue with this 'kiasu' attitude postings?
It's just some 'impromptu interactive blogging' fun!
I know some of you 'kiasus' out there have just begun to sow cosmos seeds.
Well done, 'kiasus'!
------------
2 hours later...
Wait! I have something to add...
You got to check out the next 'kiasu' who is none other than Africanaussie.
She has just posted on some sexy looking butterflies.
She's the one who inspired me to track down the butterflies in the first place.

I had to laugh at the "kiasu" comment. I haven't heard that in a long time!

  6. If kiasu results in you and Andrea and African Aussie posting butterflies continuously, then this is a good thing! Tomorrow is our Agung (King)'s Birthday, so I wish you happy holidays!

  10. You are becoming the queen of interactive posts. I think that is kiasu itself. I saw Andrea's post yesterday and was quite amazed the butterflies all stayed in the bush while she took a photo. Your photos are beautiful and my favorite is the unusual pose of the vertical butterfly just showing the bottom of his wings fan-like.

  15. Beautiful photos, One. How do you pronounce kiasu? I don't think I've heard it on my trips to Singapore. I was amused while reading Andrea's post so of course I had to crawl on over here to read your side. I was expecting to see you go kiasu on the collages. Hehehe.

  34. I've never heard of this word and am very happy to learn it. I also love your attitude of turning it into a friendly game -- since I suspect some people embody "kiasu" in a less attractive way. Great photos!

  39. Hey One, it's me again!! Guess what? It may be kiasu too...I just posted the pictures of the mating leaf beetles. Hope you stop by and take a look.

  40. LOL, now i know why you told me to come here at once, unfortunately i've been away to a forested area with very weak signal so i didnt go on-line. I am sorry i was not able to go 'kiasu-ing' immediately. I am a bit envious with the 41 comments you got here, haha, but i am very happy with the comments in mine too! I will continue the kiasu by saying your butterflies are Hypolimnas bolina and they love eating sweet potato leaves here. YOu are lucky to see them still drying their wings. I have lots of them also in photos, but those catterpillars elude my camera. Do you know i am afraid of larvae? That is one reason i might not be able to continue my dream of putting up a butterfly garden. The header is also very beautiful, but like Donna of gardenwalkgardentalk, i also love the fanlike wings in one shot.

  41. Stunning! I love butterflies. My favorite animals. Thanks for sharing this.

  42. A new concept for me and most interesting. Wow I love your photos. Amazing!

  43. I donno how you managed to get all members of the family in, including the baby caterpillar. That's awesome, to be able to capture them all. Yes, I must agree the fanlike wings shot is a great shot so does the caterpillar shot.

  44. Beautiful butterfly pictures One!

Well if the effect of "kiasu" is a healthy war on who can post the best and most butterfly pictures then I say let the competition begin.
