Lemon Tree with Garden Pests

After 3 years of growing my lemon tree, I've just begun to enjoy the fruits.
The tree grew exponentially when I added a lot of used coffee ground and tea ground to it last year.
As you can see, this lemon tree comes complete with many insect pests, pollinators and predators too.
Although there are many holes on the leaves, I do not spray any insecticide on it and have been enjoying the beauty of Citrus Butterflies, praying mantis, all sort of spiders, grasshoppers...

My lemon tree,
Not all that pretty,
Attract bugs constantly,
With predators living happily.

My lemon tree,
Not all that pretty,
Consume as lemon tea with honey,
Helps me cut down on soft drink and coffee.

My lemon drink,
Not all that pretty,
Do share your lemon recipe,
which is tasty and healthy.

  1. Some beautiful and interesting insects are appreciating your lemon tree. I cringe when I see advertisements for insecticides which promise to kill all the bugs, sort of like a nuclear attack on the world of the pollinators. Someone once asked me what I did about the bugs in my garden. How sad.

But Clifford - that's one pest anyone could love!

  5. I love that little poem, it looks like the lemon tree zoo (as Tatyana said) is inspiring you beautifully. I know you love critters! Last weekend when i was at home in the province chasing butterflies and insects, i've been thinking about you, i'm sure you will love the area we are in, you will see a lot. Hovever, my lens is not good for them yet. That collage is nice too, next time i will try that style. We have a few lemon trees too, they are also organic. It fruits all year round, and we cannot use all of the fruits, so they just rot.

  6. Wow your lemon tree sure does have a lot of visitors! I bought one last year and I will try out your tip to put coffee grounds in the pot. I have done that around my azaleas and roses but didn't think to put it around the citrus plants. Love your collage and poem!

  16. One, Nice mosaic of your lemon tree community. A lovely bunch of critters. I have never tasted home grown orange. I know how wonderful home grown apples are, but I can't grow lemon trees. Lucky you.

  18. One, Your lemon tree is like an oak tree here: host to many native insects crucial to our environment. Bravo for not spraying.

  19. Your mosaic is beautiful! My lemon trees are hurting right now from the freezes...no leaves, buds, nothing. I think it will come back because they did last year but I'll miss the bloom season. I'm going to try your idea of coffee/tea grounds. Mine are potted...how much of the grounds did you apply?
