Picture This Photo Contest - January 2011

Do you know that Gardening Gone Wild has organized a Picture This Photo Contest for January 2011?
This contest is designed for point and shoot camera loving people like many of us.
The theme is Macro in Mason Jar.

Below are the items and tools I selected from my garden for the macro shots.
They include flowers, bird's nest fern, pebbles, rocks, glass jar, clay balls and greens.

I came up with many variations since it was a fun experiment.

Below are some sunflower variations.

I could have come up with bug variations as well but decided that play time was over for the day.
After all that I went through, I selected my first photo to participate in the contest.
It is the simplest and easiest one.
I must say that I am very impressed with David Perry's photo of onions in a jar.
He used only onions inside and outside the jar and the effect is just awesome.

Do leave me a note if you wish to participate so that I can come by to admire your photos.

  1. Good work. I bet you had loads of fun. I most like the one with a single yellow flower in the center. The biggest image. It is very artistic and not very identifiable. It leaves much to the imagination. Good luck in the competition, your photography is always so good.

  2. Thanks Donna, The jar was on top of the bird nest's fern for that picture. I've already won. The prizes are learning a new technique and having fun while experimenting.

  3. Wonderful photos, but you are such a great photographer that you always post great photos!! I love the sunflower + purple flower combo. My garden is covered in ice right now and is almost completely dormant but I do have some cool foliage I could photograph. Once everything melts, hopefully I'll have time to take some photos. :o)

  5. One, I am so impressed both with your photos, but also with the fact that you jumped right in and participated in the contest. My favorite is the purple flowers with the blue and green rays reflected in the glass. They are all beautiful though.

  7. Oh, how gorgeous!!! Now that is the way to take pictures in a Mason Jar. LOL! I could have used your lovely blooms when I was playing around with the Mason Jar shots. Mine were so pathetic. LOL! It is fun to experiment with it isn't it? The ones with the sunflowers under them are so beautiful. Good luck on the contest.Have a wonderful week.

  11. Wonderful One!!! That is a very beautiful experiment, i also would like to try that, hahaha! I just dont have that bigger dish containing the pebbles, i dont know what a Mason Jar is, but i think i can get jars like that in your photo. The result looks so artistic and i love all of them.

  12. TS, Thank you for the compliments. I use the photos to hide the lack of talent in writing. You write wonderful posts.

P3Chandan, Tell me about it. I couldn't decide either but what the heck! It's just for fun and learning.

Carolyn, Thanks. Usually I don't jump right in but this time I did. Right into the jar.

Fer, Your photos are always very sharp and beautiful. I'm only using a Point and Shoot. I don't think it is any better than yours.

Lona, Thanks for the compliments and am glad I found your blog. Good luck to you too.

    Kerry, Thank you.

Rainfield, Haha! I can just imagine you putting spiders in your jar. LOL!

    Patty, Thanks for the support.

Milka, I am looking forward to your production.

Andrea, I don't know what a Mason Jar is either and even did a google search. LOL! I figured that any glass jar would do and went ahead with a milk jar. You don't need the bigger dish below the jar. That is not part of the rules. I was just experimenting and wanted to share the ideas I had.
