Sunflowers

Why are sunflowers named as such?

Is it called a sunflower because the flower head follows the direction of the sun?

Or is it called the sunflower because the flower resembles a sun?

I do not have the answer.
I am just finding an excuse to flaunt these bright, cheery looking flowers.

During the day, the leaves are chewed by grasshoppers,
During the night, the beetles take over.
To me it doesn't really matter,
So long as they don't chew up the flowers.

Here are my sunflowers with happy rays,
Extinguishing all feelings of dismay.
How do you find my sunflower display?
Have they brought joy and brighten up your day?

  22. Your sunflowers might not be as bright as the sun. I have overlooked them since 8/1/11.

But somehow the rays of happiness were felt, thus I am here.

    Have a good day.

  23. Love your sunflower pics. It doesn't matter if the sunflower follows the direction of the sun, but it is aptly named for giving all of us a bright day.
