Photography and Backdrops

Do you think the insect and weeds stand out with the beige background behind them?

With a dark-coloured backdrop, we could see the weeds clearly from this angle.

The green foliage of the chilli plant with yellow moss rose stand out with a soft, furry background.

Sometimes, I use items like a foot or a paw as a size comparison to the object in focus.
As you can see, my black and white backdrop is multi-functional.

If not properly used, backdrops can be distracting to an otherwise attractive photo.

Occasionally, I put the backdrops in focus and blur the surroundings to appreciate their importance.
Whatever would I do without them?

  2. Kitchen flavours, The dark-coloured one cost a slice of cake an hour. I have a Satisfaction Guaranteed Policy. If its not co-operative, cakes will be returned.

  3. Aaron, To be honest with you, I do not have any photography knowledge nor skills. I hope the professionals don't shoot me for attempting to talk about it. I believe they will understand it is meant to be a humorous post.

  6. Fun post ... at first I thought the black backdrop was a bear :)

  7. Joey, The vet said the same thing to us. She thought that black backdrop looked like a bear when he was much younger.

  8. I have a couple of those backgrounds, too. The problem is getting them to stay still long enough for me to take a photo. A lot of my photos are trial and error with the focusing. It is fun to take lots of photos! Enjoyed your post!

  9. Great pics One. Missy thinks dogs make all photos better and Clifford and Goldie deserve a special treat for being such good backdrops.

  12. Amy, Looking forward to seeing your backgrounds.

Missy, Unlike you, Goldee and Clifford don't supervise what happens in the garden. They actually do the tilling and wood chipping themselves without being supervised.

Rainfield, Let me tell you a secret. The dark coloured one discovered a hole with a creature in it. That's why it stood still.
Lots of bugs photos waiting to be displayed. Coming soon.

Malar, Thanks dear. My neighbour's dog has given birth to ten cute puppies 2 days ago. Let me know if you are interested.

  13. Hahaha, i love the way you treated these things, and you were able to let that dog put his foot sideward huh! Am glad to meet your foot though! Lovely photos and funny post.

  14. Andrea, Things are not what they appear to be. I did not put my dog's paw next to the mushroom. It so happened that he walked past when I clicked. None of the above is true. It's all a make belief.

  15. That are lots of things to pick in photography. I think I am a little slow in this area as compared with my friends. Love the first shot a lot ;-)

  18. Stephanie, I wasn't serious in my photography tips. You seem to have never-ending exotic, healthy looking flowers which you photograph excellently.

~fer, Hmm... Come to think of it, Clifford's paw looks rather sexy.

Khabbab, Glad you like the macro though I think yours are many times better. :)
