Charmed by Yellow Cosmos

When I saw a yellow butterfly hovering around my yellow cosmos, I remembered the LEM Photography Challenge with the theme, Yellow.

If you are wondering where the yellow butterfly is, well, butterflies don't wait for the camera to arrive.
There were however other bugs waiting for their photos to be taken.
You might have noticed that there have been a lot of activities around the cosmos flowers, including in my last few posts.
I would always remember the green praying mantis that waved and smiled to me from a cosmos flower.
If you are looking for some critter activities, grow cosmos.
Critters tend to be easily charmed by cosmos.
Grow once and it easily self reseeds.

  1. If they never wait for your camera, talk to them.

I used to talk to butterflies, and they always gave me a good hand.

  3. My Mt Fuji is now flowering crazily but cosmos seems stunted, no flower. It's so hard to get Mt Fuji seeds, thank you for giving me so much. I love the blooms so much.

  8. Great little set of macros. I spend alot of time chasing butterflies too - the verbena seems to be the only plant they will stay on long enough for me to get a photo.

Hope you are well One - I haven't been over for awhile.

  13. I have cosmos blooming but they are a sterile variety. I was sent some seeds from Donna at Gardens Eye View, and was not so lucky with germination. The rain did them in this year. The little plants started then gone. So no real critters on the cosmos for me.

  15. I'm thrilled to hear your bugs like cosmos as I planted 'cosmic mix' cosmos (a yellow and orange variety) just this spring. Looking forward to seeing insects on the blooms in the coming months.

  18. I love Cosmos and had beautiful ones for several years that would self sow. Now for some reason I never get any self seeders and I am buying new ones every year.
They are such a tough hard working plant. I have never seen the yellow ones.

  20. two years ago cosmos almost invaded our whole front yard because they grow so tall before flowering as they are photoperiodic. When they died i throw all of them including the seedlings. Now, i want to have the pink but i can't seem to find seeds anymore! By the way i am envious because you have lots of commenters, huhuhu!

  29. Lovely photos yet again - I am so pleased that I planted cosmos again this year. In fact I threw out some more seeds - this time I think they are the pink varieties. I am getting ready to post some more photos my hubby took of the butterflies and bees on my cosmos. I bow to him as my resident butterfly photographer now!
