Black Ants

What do you do when you see black ants in the garden?

It could be a sign that there are mealy bugs nearby.
Take a look.

Do you see a tiny spider on the left side of the Red  Button Ginger?
It may take care of the ants when it eventually grows up.

Alternatively, we could wait for the praying mantis to finish up with the fly and proceed with the ants.

So, what do you do when you see black ants on the plants?

For me, I take out my camera.

Check out dearlittleredhouse for mosaics of all sorts.

  1. Very cool! You got really close to a hard subject to pin down!
My camera is the only thing that would get me close to bugs! Great photos!

  5. i like the macro feature of your camera, as there's a lot of critters in our area which i am sure you will appreciate. It's just that my camera cannot get nice shots of them without tripod. My distance to the subject must be 0.9m, and that is not easy for me.

  10. I let the ants be...they might be the busy pollinators going up and down my long bean plant, the eggplant and my tomatoes!

  11. I get worried because they are hosting those uninvited pests. Then I start to hunt for some lady birds or praying mantis to reduce the number of this pest.Nice shot!

  14. All the ants around us appear to live under the lock block paving of our drive. Love your macro shots, I am going to give it a try, not sure if my camera is good enough.

  15. I would leave the black ants alone as long as they don't bite me. Its the red ants that I squeeze whenever I see one near me, their bite hurts.

  17. I only mind ants if they're of the fire ant kind. Great shots! Thanks for pointing out that minuscule spider!

  19. Great pictures. Thanks for showing us all these different creatures. We have lots of ants around here, just not that particular type. I also think aphids when I see ants - disgusting!

  20. Wonderful macro-photography. I am not sure that I worry about black ants. I am more likely to worry about deer.

I read your comment about my not having a new mission to carry out without Katarina's meme. Yes, I'll sorely miss that. How about you giving me a mission? I'll be in Bandung on Thursday...what's my mission, ma'am?
